Generic Trademarks-Beneficial or Harmful?
The other day, during a business meeting, my partners and I got into a discussion about trademarks. We as a group were unable to agree on whether or not it is preferable to have a generic trademark. In my opinion, having this type of trademark can be harmful to a business even though the product is associated with your brand name when others use it. We recently developed a new and innovative toy and have received trademark protection for this toy. Hopefully at some point in the future our product will be so popular that it may become a generic trademark, but my concerns will remain in place.
