Criticism On “Industry Puts Heat on Schools to Teach Skills Employers Need”

A key element in allowing the kids to take classes would be FLEXIBILITY in the types of teachers and teaching environments. With a big list of tenured teachers who could NOT be let go green environments because of the typical contracts, you have no flexibility to ad the kind of classes you are praising.

An English teacher is unlikely to be able to teach welding, the average history teacher could not teach electronics. But, if the demand is for trade and tech classes, who would teach them?

My personal experience is that the Teachers Unions would fight anyone coming in from the outside, especially if they are competent in a skill. Most districts now cannot hire additional teachers due to the number of inept teachers dragging down the budget.

I will refer you the the movie ‘Waiting for Superman’
