Working in China

My first few weeks of living and working in China have been a blur.  I’ve met more great new friends than I would have imagined, been frustrated and confused more often than not, and also been more thrilled and enthusiastic than I thought possible.  There is one thing that I was NOT ready for, though.  After all the preparation and the research about how to teach english overseas, I am a bit disappointed I hadn’t considered researching how to eat overseas.  My American diet of pizza and cheeseburgers is extremely expensive to maintain in China, so I recently made the decision refrain from seeking out American products at the market.  Afraid to go it alone, I sought out the help of a Chinese friend.  Talk about broadening horizons.  After glorious mouthful after mouthful of various street food items (lamb-on-a-stick, anyone?), I definitely think I have kicked my expensive eating habits for good.  Yet another way the Chinese have taught me so much more than I will teach all year.
