What is a Keffiyeh?

The Keffiyeh is a Palestinian scarf, also referred to as Yashmagh or Shemagh, which is a traditional headdress typically worn by Arab men. It is normally made of a cotton cloth that is folded and wrapped around the head. However, in modern times, it has become a trendy fashion accessory worn around the neck, often by people who want to show their encouragement and endorsement towards the Palestinian struggle for freedom. Originally the Arab men would from arid climate areas would wear this to provide protection from direct sun exposure, as well as for occasional use in protecting the mouth and eyes from blown dust and sand.
