History of the chocolate chip cookie

Ruth Wakefield, a graduate of the Framingham State Normal School Department of Household Arts, in 1924 is the woman who made the first chocolate chip cookie at the Toll House Inn.

This Toll House Inn, also known as Toll House Lodge, was Ruth and her husband’s property in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. The lodge was located between New Bedford and Boston and they were determined to maintain and preserve the tradiions that the lodge has kept. The lodge was a very well-known place for tired traavelers paid for with a toll.

Pretty soon, the chocolate chip cookie became famous and everyone owe it to this woman.
