One of my friends from college teaches snowboarding classes at the local mountain pass, and when I told him that I wanted to learn, I asked him to share his recommendations with me. He told me which kind of board and bindings to get, and to get a special kind of gloves. He also said that he recommends burton snowboard pants, and that they were far superior to the competition.
