Joy is Watching My Grandmother Reading a Book
It was years before I found out that my grandmother could not read. I remember always reading her mail and telling her what the letter said, but I never really gave the reason why much thought. While in college, I wrote my grandmother several letters and she never acknowledged that she received any of them. When I asked her why she had not answered my letter, she reluctantly told me that she could not read. When I offered help and she accepted, I immediately set her up to start on the phonics program. She is not only reading my letters now, but she is also enjoying reading books for the first time in her life.
